J. Lorenzo was born in Guardamar del Segura (Alicante-Spain) in 1967. He obtained his degree in Chemistry at the Universidad de Alicante in 1994. Afterwards, he got a degree in Materials Engineering at the Universidad Miguel Hernández de Elche in 2003, obtaining a national first prize from Ministerio de Educación y Ciencia. In the meantime he worked as a Chemist in a Thermoplastic Compounds transforming Factory in Elche. In July 2003 he joined the research group of Prof. Fernando Fernández Lázaro at the Universidad Miguel Hernández de Elche, in order to pass his Final Degree Project in Materials Engineering. He went on investigating in this group where he obtained his master in October 2004, and his Ph.D. in October 2009 with a thesis titled "Síntesis y caracterización de polímeros y ftalocianinas de silicio con propiedades fotorrefractivas, electroluminiscentes o de interruptor molecular". Since 2008 he holds an assistant position at the Universidad Miguel Hernández de Elche, although in 2003, 2005 and 2006 he had already been teaching several months at this University and in the Secondary School. His current research focuses on the synthesis and properties of new silicon and zinc phthalocyanines.
